I am often asked what type of equipment I use to take my images with, for this website, and for my nature photography work. So I have decided to add a few pictures of the main equipment I use. I do have lots of other ‘bits’, but these are my main pieces of kit.
Why Nikon? For me Nikon offers all that I need. I have used other systems, including Canon, but I always felt my images lacked something, so I went back with Nikon, and this is where I’m going to stay. There are of course other systems out there, not just Nikon and Canon, but for what I want Nikon has the edge in most areas, especially where it matters, image quality and colour. However, at the end of the day, its what you do with the equipment you have; the brand embossed on the front really is only secondary.
Nikon D300 - My Main Camera
Nikon 600mm f/4 - My Main Prime Lens
Nikon 105vr f/2.8 - My Main Macro Lens
Nikon 50mm 1.8 - My Snap Shot Lens
Kenko Extension Tubes
Nikon SB-R1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight
Gitzo 1548 Tripod with full Wimberly Head - Long Lens setup
RealTree Hide (click here for these)
Lowepro Super Trekker AW II Black - The bag I keep some of it in!
And lastly, some of the equipment I have owned in the past, some of which was used to capture the images on this site.
If you have any questions about any of it, please send me an e-mail.
And for those who keep asking me for an image of the equipment to gauge the size of a 600mm lens from, here you go! The TV in the background is about 42", to give you a reference. I know it's a bad image, but it was taken with a phone as I didn't have a spare camera to hand!
