Light My Fire Army Firesteel - Review - 05/04/09

The Light My Fire Army Firesteel was originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defense. This FireSteel produces 3,000°C sparks which makes fire lighting easy in any weather, wet or dry at any altitude and as a result is used by a number of special forces around the world.
The dependability of these steels has already made them a favorite among survival experts, hunters, fishermen and campers. It has also found its way into cabins and backyards as a fool-proof way to lighting stoves and gas-barbecues.
From a personal point of view the Light My Fire Army Firesteel has become a bushcrafters staple around the world. I use many of these on courses throughout the year, and they really do last a long time. They are exceptionally reliable and made of a sturdy material. They are also quite small, and fit nicely in a pocket, on a belt or hung around ones neck on a quick release or pull keychain. The firesteel does come with a short lanyard, but can be replaced quite easily as its very short.

Conclusion – a great little piece of kit which is a must for anyone who spends time outside or just loves gadets. They are pretty cheap and easy to use. The only negatives I can find are very small, such as the colour (black). I would prefer green, but it certainly wouldn’t put me off at all.
