Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4G ED VR Lens - 15/02/09
I have been a keen photographer since I was about 18. Last year however I decided to sell lots of my equipment, and just keep a few bits, with the hope of purchasing some new equipment in a few years or so. But due to the recent economic state, the professional wildlife lenses were rising in cost at an alarming rate, some of them have been going up in price by several hundred pounds per day! So, with this in mind I decided to take the plunge and purchase one of my ‘dream' lenses to help capture some images of the wildlife I see on my travels, and also to help teach people the skill of long lens shooting on my wildlife photography courses.
The lens in question is a Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4G ED VR, which is the ultimate lens for small or distant wildlife. From my research I found that the usual waiting list is anything from 6 months to 2 years, which seemed a little odd, considering Nikon make these to sell and make a profit on! Anyhow, I was lucky enough to track a brand new copy down in the UK, as far as I know the only one for sale in the country.

I don't plan on running many photography courses in 2009, and even the wild food and bushcraft courses are going to be few and far between. One reason for this is that I want to have a little more time on my hands to take some pictures, plus with a little boy on the way I'm sure I will be busy learning a few new skills too. I also want a little more time to add some content to this website, such as tutorials and more articles on wild food and bushcraft.
I will add a review of the lens once I have had chance to test it out, as I know many of us outdoor folk dabble with wildlife photography, and I also want to offer some free advice to anyone who is thinking of buying the same lens. I had a heck of a time trying to find anything about it out. So, if you are reading this and would like to ask something about it, then please do feel free to e-mail me, or, better still, add a comment below and I will share the answer (If I know).
I will add some new shots soon.
Thanks for reading
Catch you on the trail
Kris
