Images of Autumn - 14/09/08

It's been a strange year weather-wise thus far. Summer lasted for a full two days, and the rest, well, let's just say WET would be an appropriate word. By this time I have usually taken some shots of the early stages of autumn, but this year I have simply been too busy!


As a result I have decided to put a couple of shots up that I took about one year ago to the day.

This is a Common Darter Dragonfly. Lots of these around this year!

This is a Green Shield Bug. You can find these chaps from early summer in most parts, but they can also be found at this time of year for a few more weeks.

Spindle - a poisonous shrub that turns this lovely pink colour in the autumn. As the name suggest its wood has been used as spindles in the past. The berries look very tempting, but they are poisonous, so no noshing!

This is an Ox-eye daisy, also called a moon daisy. I went for an arty shot here and decided to take a picture of the back of the flower. I entitled it ‘away from the sun'. It was very windy so a sharp shot was not easy!

Our old friend spindle again. As you can see the colours really do sum-up autumn.

The famous daddy-long-legs, or more correctly know as the Cranefly, seen here bathing in the last of the sunshine.

And lastly, another dragonfly shot. I enjoy using a shallow depth of field in some of my work, so it won't be to everyone's taste. But I hope it highlights those compound eyes!
