Foragers course (with pictures)

Thank you to everyone who attended the forager’s course yesterday. The day started out a little cloudy and rainy but soon cheered up, and was in fact rather hot in the end!


Spring seems a tad later than this time last year, but we still managed to find and cover lots of useful plants and trees on the course. Unfortunately not enough time to cover them all, even with me running the course for a full hour extra!


The Pignut Conopodium majus was certainly one of the highlights of the day, with the group finding several large patches. Everyone got to try one, and as usual they all seemed to enjoy this springtime nibble.


Other useful plants/trees we covered were, Yew, cuckoo pint, wood sorrel, horsetail, violets, ground ivy, hedge woundwort,  stinging nettles, hawthorn, blackthorn, lesser celandine, coltsfoot, wild service tree, raspberry, bramble, fir trees, chickweed, horse chestnut, jack-by-the-hedge, hogweed, giant hogweed, cherry, birch, Primrose, rosebay willowherb, wood spurge, PLUS MANY OTHERS.
